Hi,
We’re Mariya and Liam, and we’re parents to a precious 1.5 year old. We have a forest around 40 mins outside Sofia near Pchelina Dam lake. We’re still deciding if this is the place to settle (for a few important reasons) and looking into all of the details. We have decided to not rush into anything and do some more digging, literary and figuratively speaking. In the meantime, we are exploring a little more and seeing what’s available in the beautiful mountain range of Rhodope. Rhodope offers areas that boast clean air and uncontaminated land. Resources are plentiful and the locals care more about the environment. Our aim is to settle in a place where we can build our cob house, live off-grid, waste free and as freely as possible. We are passionate about permaculture and would like to live in this way, in a place where our soil and air are not being contaminated. As we have a little one, we have been really considering how we would like to bring her up and what kind of values we would like to install. We feel that children should learn in creative, explorative, non-standardized ways, to have time to play and learn skills that are actually necessary and useful for them to lead full-filling lives. We don’t have very extreme views, but realise that the world needs a different direction to the one it’s been going in and have come to believe that the way forward is small sustainable communities, producing our own food and energy.
At this moment, we are putting the call out for similar, like-minded families whom we can start our community with. It would be great if you also have children or are planning a family soon as we are imagining a little community where our children grow and learn together. As we are not totally settled yet, we are mainly looking for people who would like to join us now in looking and buying land together, or taking on the forest together which will indeed be quite a large project. We can discuss options in more detail.

Great plan but also wondering if this is just for families or for everyone? Is there land that can be cultivated and do you have a vision of being fully sustainable or almost, when it comes to food? Hi Catherine, these are really great questions! We would like to connect with families, ones with children or planning to have children soonish. This is simply because we are a family with a child and a brighter future for our little girl is our main focus and something we are considering at every step. But of course, we don’t discriminate and welcome anyone who shares our dream.
